Dashboard is a popular topic, a popular quest. It is a concept everybody is trying to realize, yet it seems difficult to achieve.
What should be on a dashboard? Should it be status updates? Should it be the strategic view?
I am one that think web project management and team collaboration app are not just better but transformational. They make status report useless because the information is transparent and the same for all. I cannot see myself managing anything without that. They also have invaded my personal life so much that it is powerful. So definitely no status report.
Then should it be the strategic view? I say no because information on the strategic objective would not often change enough to give useful information for decision-making.
I believe the goal of a dashboard is to pilot the operations. Just like on a plane. And focus the key decisions that must be made in limited time.
